In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Woodbridge Public Library is hosting a variety of events that honor the rich culture, history, and contributions of Hispanic and Latinx communities. The celebration, which runs from September 15 to October 15, will feature engaging activities for all ages, from cultural performances to fun crafting activities. Discover the music of Bomba! Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month as Kim Ruiz executive director of the Puerto Rican Association for Human Development (PRAHD) highlights their Bomba Academy!
Bomba, a Puerto Rican musical genre, emerged from the labor of West African enslaved individuals and their descendants over 400 years ago on colonial plantations. Today, it embodies the island's profound African heritage, resonating as cherished folk music. Embark on a journey into the African Influence on the Hispanic Caribbean, through PRAHD's Bomba Academy's captivating performances. Watch members of the academy demonstrate remarkable Bomba skills, guided by instructors Nelson Baez, a drumming master, and Magda Baez, a dance virtuoso, both brimming with passion for Puerto Rico's rich history.
Everyone, regardless of their background, are invited to partake in this cultural experience and embrace the beauty of Bomba.

For children, ages 5 & under, stop by Iselin branch and take a craft to make at home! Please only take what you need so many can enjoy the fun! All necessary supplies will be provided with the exception of glue/glue sticks, scissors, markers, crayons, or tape if needed. Grab and Go's will be available for free to Woodbridge township residents starting at 11:00 a.m. on a first come first serve basis, while supplies last.
