Mayor John E. McCormac Announces Ground-Breaking of Cypress Park Level Playing Field

Mayor John E. McCormac, along with members of the Township’s Special Needs Community, announced the ground-breaking and start-of-construction of the new Cypress Park Level Playing Field and Recreational Facility located at the Cypress Recreational Center in Port Reading.  The Cypress Park level playing field and fully-accessible recreational facility is specifically designed for challenged and handicapped children and young adults of all ages and abilities.  The project was funded through a $1.5 million Recreational Facilities Special Needs Improvement grant from the State of New Jersey.  The Cypress Park Level Playing Field will field baseball, softball and soccer, plus a track around the entire complex will afford special needs athletes the opportunity to enjoy the mental and physical benefits of sports participation.  Level playing fields and fully-accessible facilities provide handicapped and challenged citizens of all ages, skills and experience with many and varied play events.  The custom-designed field and facilities include wheelchair access ramps and equipment that is fully compliant with federal, state, county and municipal safety standards.

The Avenel Performing Arts Center (APAC) - the region’s newest performing arts center designed for theatre, stage productions and special performances – is welcoming theatre-goers with the very best entertainment venue in Central Jersey.  The APAC is a multi-disciplinary performing arts center located in Avenel (Woodbridge Township). Managed by the Woodbridge Arts Alliance (WAA), the APAC promises to energize Avenel and surrounding communities by programming exceptional, professional theatre, music, comedy, dance and more.  The APAC features seating for 200 patrons, a separate performance room and pre-function lobby area that opens to exterior space for larger gatherings and events.  APAC also features Curtains Restaurant – a stand-alone dining destination available for catered pre-performance and special events.

Woodbridge Ghost Walk  ‘Haunts’ Main Street on Saturday

The Woodbridge Halloween Ghost Walk returns to Parker Press Park and Main Street on Saturday (Oct. 19) with an all-new fun and fascinating 40-minute guided tour into the spirit-filled past of Woodbridge Township.  Ghost Walk explores a side of Woodbridge not typically found in textbooks – the Township’s rich history of ghosts, curious incidents and unexplained occurrences from Colonial days to the present.  Costumed guides and actors tell the stories of New Jersey’s first European settlers, Revolutionary War heroes, members of Victorian society and much, much more!!!  Meet the spirits of both famous and infamous local residents of the town’s past.    Ghost tours haunt Main Street starting at 6:30 PM (Sat., Oct. 19).  Tours leave every 15 minutes from Parker Press Park (400 Rahway Ave. across from Berkeley College).  Tour Tickets: $10.00 per person (strollers FREE). Recreation Department Hosts Halloween ‘Hauntings’ & ‘Spooktacular’ Events!!

Woodbridge Township is under the spell of ‘Haunted Halloween’ with special Township-wide ‘Spooktacular’ events to celebrate the annual recognition of ‘All Hollows Eve.’  The Department of Recreation has a line-up of Halloween events that are not to be missed!!!  Pumpkin Painting returns to Parker Press Park on Wed., Oct. 23 from 4:00 – 6:00 PM.  Come pick out a ‘Great’ pumpkin and paint a Halloween masterpiece.  The Haunted Halloween Hay Ride & Family Fun Festival is set for Thurs., Oct. 24 from 6:30 – 8:30 PM. at Parker Press Park... Beware of the Ghosts & Goblins along the way!!!   Trunk-or-Treat on Main Street and at the Town Hall parking lot on Sat., Oct. 26 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.  Show off your Halloween costume while ‘Trunk-or-Treating’ at Town Hall… Prizes for funniest, scariest and most original costume.  The Halloween Drive-In Movie – Monster House – is showing at dusk in the WCC parking lot on Sun., Oct. 27.  Parking lot opens at 5:30 PM.    


Explore the Mayor’s Health Expo on Saturday

The Woodbridge Department of Health & Human Services and the mayor’s Wellness Campaign will host the Mayor’s Health Expo on Sat., Oct. 19, 2019 from 9:00 AM to Noon at the Woodbridge Health Center, 2 George Frederick Plaza.  Visitors to the Mayor’s Health Expo 2019 can obtain FREE or reduced-cost health screening tests which help monitor Medical conditions and provide vital patient-care information.  Health Expo screenings include: blood pressure, eye and foot screening; glucose and cholesterol screening, and body mass index screening.  Health Expo visitors will also find information on numerous health-related topics including Social Security, Medicare, pharmacy assistance, substance abuse, domestic violence, and more.  Area Health Care providers and medical assistance agencies will be on-hand to provide information on health-care products, services and programs.   There is a minimal fee and required pre-registration for the comprehensive blood screening and total cholesterol check; prostrate blood screening; Hepatitis B and C immunity tests, and tests for thyroid function T-3 and T-4, C-reactive protein and THS (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone).  To pre-register contact the Woodbridge Township Department of Health & Human Services at:  732-855-0600 x5026 or 5003.


Awards Ceremony Honors Community Volunteers

Mayor John E. McCormac and the Municipal Council will host Woodbridge Community Day on Sun., Oct. 20, 2019 – program starts at 11:30 AM - at the Woodbridge Community Center (WCC) when 50 community  volunteers receive the annual Mayor’s Community Volunteer Award for distinguished community service.  The Woodbridge Township community is served by volunteers helping neighbors in countless ways each and every day - volunteer service that includes church and community, student tutoring, athletic coaches, hospital aides, senior resident assistance, clothing and food drive coordinators, first aid and fire squad members, serving and assisting area homeless, participating in the annual Tooling Around the Township home repair program, and many more community service endeavors and programs. 


WPD Encourages Safe Trick-or-Treating During Haunted Halloween

The Woodbridge Police Department (WPD) will be watching out for Township “Ghosts & Goblins” as part of special Halloween patrols.  The WPD will enforce a special Halloween curfew on the evenings of Wed., Oct. 30 (Mischief Night) and Thurs., Oct. 31 (Halloween).  While scary fun is great, special safety reminders and precautions will be in place in order to keep Township Trick-or-Treaters out of harm’s way.  The curfew is in place from 7:00 PM to sunrise both days and applies to everyone under the age of 18 (unless accompanied by a parent, guardian or responsible adult).  Police will issue a warning and instructions to return home to first-time violators; second offense violators will be taken into custody and held until picked up by a parent or guardian.

The Club at Woodbridge is now part of the Woodbridge Township Recreation Family – and we’re offering an incredible menu of health, wellness, fitness and entertainment programs, events and happenings to members and guests!!!  The Club is the perfect complement to the Woodbridge Community Center (WCC) right across Main Street.  Both facilities have a pool, running track, cardio rooms, weight rooms, concession areas and child care functions. Both run summer camps for kids and personal training and other amenities.
