Tribute Band Tuesday.  Woodbridge Wednesday & Music on Main.  Local Band Thursday and Country Sunday!!!  Plan to shop the Farmers’ Market at Parker Press Park.  The Independence Day Fireworks extravaganza BLASTS OFF on July 3 from Alvin Williams Park in Sewaren!!!  Explore the BarronFest Art Festival!!!  The Taste of Woodbridge serves in October!!!  And there is much, much more to come – including the 350th Anniversary Grand Community Celebration on June 1.

The Avenel Performing Arts Center (APAC) rolled-out the Red Carpet and welcomed theatre-goers with a Grand Opening VIP reception.  The APAC - the region’s newest performing arts center specially designed for theatre, stage productions and special performances – features seating for 200 patrons, a separate performance room and pre-function lobby area that opens to exterior space for larger gatherings and events.  APAC also features Curtains Restaurant – a stand-alone dining destination available for catered pre-performance and special events.

Woodbridge Hosts Memorial Day Services

It’s Memorial Weekend!!!  Let’s remember to take time to honor our Township residents who have served – and continue to serve - our nation and community.  This Memorial Day, our mission as a community is to get word to our Home Town Hero's serving in the military - Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard and National Guard – and who are currently deployed to Military Stations around the globe - that we offer our prayers for a safe journey home.  Celebrate our freedom and honor the memory of those who fought for our liberty at one of the Memorial Day events.
 
SUN., MAY 26
Colonia VFW Post #6061 will host a Memorial Day service on Sun., May 26 at Noon outside the Post located at 606 Inman Avenue in Colonia.  The memorial service will honor USMC Cpl. Kevin J. Reinhard - Cpl. Reinhard, assigned to Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 363, was one of six U.S. Marines who died In-The-Line-Of-Duty in January 2012 while supporting combat operations in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.  Following the service, the Colonia VFW will host a Memorial Day BBQ.  $20.00 per person (children under 10 Free).  Tickets: VFW Post #6061 at 732-574-9783 or Councilwoman Debbie Meehan at: 732-382-0273.
 
MEMORIAL DAY - MON., MAY 27
Keasbey Fire Company #1 will conduct a Memorial Day Parade & Service at the Keasbey War Memorial Monument Park (foot of Edison Bridge on Smith Street).  The Parade steps-off at 7:30 AM from the Keasbey Fire Department (420 Smith Street, Keasbey) and will march to the Keasbey War Memorial Monument Park (Smith Street) for the 8:00 AM Memorial Service.

Disabled American Veterans Woodbridge Memorial Chapter 56 will host a Memorial Day service at the Soldiers & Sailors Monument located at Main Street & Rahway Ave. (across from Town Hall) at 9:00 AM.
 
United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 04-04 Station Sewaren will conduct a Memorial Day Wreath-Laying Ceremony at 9:00 AM at the Woodbridge Municipal Boat Launch at the foot of Cliff Street in Sewaren.  Members of the USCG Flotilla will lay a wreath in honor of the men and women lost at sea.
 
Port Reading Fire & First Aid Squad will conduct their annual Memorial Day Flag-Raising & Remembrance Service at 9:00 AM outside the Fire Company Headquarters, 916 West Ave., Port Reading.
 
Avenel Fire Department will host their annual Memorial Day Flag-Raising & Remembrance service at 9:30 AM at the Avenel Fire House, 398 Avenel Street, Avenel.
 
Avenel VFW Memorial Post #7164 will conduct a Memorial Day service at 10:00 AM at the Post Headquarters located at 60 West Park Avenue, Avenel.
 
Hopelawn VFW Memorial Post #1352 will conduct a Memorial Day Flag-Raising service at 10:00 AM at the Hopelawn Fire Department located at 127 Loretta Street, Hopelawn. 
 
American Legion Post #87 will host Memorial Day Flag-Raising & Memorial Services starting at 10:30 AM at Post Headquarters located at 314 Berry Street, Woodbridge.  Additional services will take place at the Soldier & Sailors Monument at Main Street and Rahway Avenue; the American Legion Monument located on School Street, Oak Avenue Park and the Woodbridge Avenue and Old Road Monument ending in Sewaren at the West Avenue Monument.
 
American Legion T. Nulty Post #471 will host Memorial Day services at 11:00 AM at the Five Branches Center located at 25 Brown Avenue in Iselin.
 
Iselin VFW Memorial Post #2636 will hold a Memorial Day service at 11:00 AM at the VFW Memorial located outside Post Headquarters on Auth Avenue in Iselin. 
 
Hopelawn VFW Post #1352 will conduct a Memorial Day Flag-Raising service at Noon at the Post Headquarters, 113 James Street, Hopelawn.


Senior Summit Targets Programs & Events

Woodbridge Township Senior’s gathered at the Mayor’s Senior Summit this week to exchange ideas in an open discussion on topics ranging from expanding and improving services, programs and facilities at the Woodbridge Community Center (WCC), Evergreen Senior Center in Colonia, Sycamore Senior Center in Port Reading, Five Branches Senior Center in Iselin and other Township senior facilities... to improving communications with senior residents on emergency preparedness, weather-related alerts and consumer safety... to suggestions on improving public safety such as cracking down on speeding in residential areas... to Quality-of-Life issues such as home maintenance and repair and expanded physical fitness and wellness programs and seminars for senior residents.  Representatives from the Woodbridge Township Department of Health & Human Services, the Multi-Service Program on Aging, the Department of Recreation & Resident Services, the Woodbridge Police Department, Department of Public Works, the Evergreen, Sycamore and Five Branches Senior Centers, the Woodbridge Community Center, the Woodbridge Township Public Library, The Barron Arts Center and many Woodbridge businesses and medical care facilities participated in the Mayor’s Senior Summit.  Visit www.twp.woodbridge.nj.us for all of the Senior Month activities and events.

Mayor’s Fluke Tournament Weighs Anchor on Sat., June 15

Try your luck at deep-channel fishing!!!  The Annual Mayor’s Fluke Tournament casts-off on Sat., June 15.  The tournament runs from 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM.  Weigh-in at the Sewaren boat launch.  Prizes:  First Place: $1,000 (based on 40 boats).  Cost is $125.00 per boat… but you need to register.  Proceeds support Woodbridge Township youngsters diagnosed with acute disease.  Call the Township Recreation Department at (732) 596-4048 for registration and information.

The Club at Woodbridge is now part of the Woodbridge Township Recreation Family – and we’re offering an incredible menu of health, wellness, fitness and entertainment programs, events and happenings to members and guests!!!

The Club is the perfect complement to the Woodbridge Community Center (WCC) right across Main Street.  Both facilities have a pool, running track, cardio rooms, weight rooms, concession areas and child care functions. Both run summer camps for kids and personal training and other amenities. The Club has racquetball and badminton, while the WCC has a hockey rink, roller rink, mini-golf course and batting cages.
