‘Have-A-Heart’ Food Drive Collects $30,000 & 25,000 Lbs.

 The Colonia Business Community reports to Robert Mascenik School #26 in Iselin to drop-off $6,000.00 to the ‘Have-A-Heart’ food drive campaign.
|
Mayor John E. McCormac reports that the 2018 Woodbridge Township ‘Have-A-Heart’ food drive collected $30,000.00 in cash donations and more than 25,000 pounds of non-perishable food to support local food pantries in their work to aid needy families throughout Woodbridge Township.

 The 3rd Grade students at School #26 contributed 700 pounds of non-perishable foods to the ‘Have-A-Heart’ food drive.

The annual ‘Have-A-Heart’ food drive - so named because it runs through Valentine’s Day - is launched each January by the Woodbridge Department of Health & Human Services and the We Feed Woodbridge Food Bank Foundation. The ‘Have-A-Heart’ food drive, established in 1995, works with area food pantries, churches, parishes, schools and community and senior organizations to replenish and restock food pantries. This year, the ‘Have-A-Heart’ food drive issued a “2/14” challenge to Township corporate offices, businesses, retail outlets, food stores, restaurants and hospitality industry, charitable organizations and residents to donate 214 pounds of food or contribute $214 to assist food pantries continue their work in providing food and meals to less fortunate residents and the homeless. .

More than 100 Township corporations, businesses, retail outlets, school students, charitable organizations and residents contributed to the 2018 ‘Have-A-Heart’ food drive. Significant contributors include: Colonia Business Community (CBC): $6,000.00 and 700 Lbs.; Sansone Foundation: $5,000.00; Wegmans of Woodbridge: 1,000 Lbs.; Woodbridge ShopRite: 1,000 Lbs.; RSI Bank: $2,500.00; Northfield Bank: $2,140.00; Bishop George Ahr High School: 1,200 Lbs.; Woodbridge Community Center: 1,000 Lbs. and St. Anthony of Padua Church: 1,000 Lbs.

The year-round effort to keep Woodbridge Township food banks stocked continues with food donations being part of every election and Township-sponsored event such as the Woodbridge Wednesday concerts on Main Street, the Mayor’s Summer Concert Series, the Barron Arts Center summer programs and concerts, and other Township-sponsored public events. Non-perishable foods can be dropped off any weekday at the Woodbridge Township Public Health Center, 2 George Frederick Plaza, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Additional food drop-off locations are at Woodbridge Town Hall, 1 Main Street, the Woodbridge Library, 1 George Frederick Plaza, or at the Woodbridge Community Center, 600 Main Street.

St. Patrick's Day Parade Set for March 11

The 45th Annual Woodbridge St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Celebration gets underway on Sun., March 11, 2018 at 9:00 AM with the presentation of Proclamations to the 2018 St. Patrick’s Day Parade honorees followed by the raising of the Irish Flag at Woodbridge Town Hall (1 Main Street). The St. Patrick’s Day Parade - sponsored by the American Irish Association of Woodbridge – steps-off at 1:30 PM from Woodbridge High School, moves to Freeman Street, onto Linden Avenue, to Amboy Ave. (Route 35) to Main Street, concluding in front of Town Hall. Enjoy more than 80 marching units, including traditional Irish Pipe Bands and Step Dancers, Irish-themed parade floats and displays, marching bands representing Woodbridge, Colonia and JFK high schools, Woodbridge Township First Responders, Fire Departments, First Aid and Emergency Response Squads, members of Woodbridge scouting organizations and community, civic, sports and neighborhood associations. The annual Spring Clean-Up & Bulk Waste curbside collection program is now easier and more convenient than ever - instead of the complicated curbside pick-up schedule that ran from April through June, we’re now offering every residential household a ONE-TIME PER YEAR FREE BULK WASTE PICK-UP. The revised bulk waste collection program is more convenient for resident homeowners and allows the Department of Public Works to better manage bulk waste collection.
