Eric LeGrand Opens Avenel “Believe” Park on Sunday

Mayor John E. McCormac, Township Officials and the Avenel community will welcome Eric LeGrand to officially dedicate the Avenel 5th District Park as Eric LeGrand “Believe” Park on Sun., Oct. 16, 2016 at 1:00 P.M.  Prior to the dedication of Eric LeGrand “Believe” Park, Mayor McCormac and Township Officials will greet student artists and volunteers to  unveil the newly completed “Art Wall Mural” located at the Avenel Street underpass (across from the Avenel NJT Train Station) at 12:30 PM.

McCormac, Third Ward Councilman Cory Spillar and Port Reading residents and neighbors at the annual Port Reading Day festival and picnic on Sat., Oct. 15.  “Port Reading Day” gets underway at 1:00 PM at Port Reading School #9.  Enjoy a FREE picnic, games, music, arts and crafts, and the Port Reading community spirit.  Please bring a can… or two… or three of non-perishable food for donation to “We Feed Woodbridge” which supports Woodbridge Township food banks and food pantries

Recreation Department Hosts Halloween ‘Hauntings’ & ‘Spooktacular’ Events!!!

Woodbridge Township is under the spell of “Haunted Halloween” with special Township-wide “Spooktacular” events celebrating “All Hollows Eve.”  The Department of Recreation has a line-up of Halloween events that are not to be missed!!!  “Pumpkin Painting” returns to Parker Press Park on Wed., Oct. 19 from 4:00 – 6:00 PM.  Come pick out a “GREAT” pumpkin and paint a Halloween masterpiece.  It’s “Stuff Your Own Scarecrow” on Thurs., Oct. 20 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at Parker Press Park.  We supply the hay... you bring some old clothes and create your own take-home scarecrow.  The Halloween “Trunk-or-Treat & Costume Contest” returns to the Woodbridge Community Center (WCC) on Sun., Oct. 23 from 1:30 – 3:30 P.M.  Show off your Halloween costume while “Trunk-or-Treating.”  Prizes for funniest, scariest and most original costume.  And, stick around for the “Halloween Drive-In Movie” – “Coraline” – showing at dusk in the WCC parking lot.  The “Haunted Halloween Hay Ride & Family Fun Festival” is set for Thurs., Oct. 27 from 6:30 – 8:30 P.M. at Parker Press Park... Beware of the Ghosts & Goblins along the way!!!   

Woodbridge Halloween fun continues with the Woodbridge High School “Haunted House” (proceeds benefit the WHS Choir) on Fri., Oct. 28 and Sat., Oct. 29.  Experience your worst “Fears, Phobias & Superstitions” at the “Haunted House” – located in the old (some say haunted) building at 1500 Rahway Avenue (across from the State Prison).  “Happy Haunted House” (lights on) for youngsters is open from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M.  The real scary “Haunted House” is open from 8:00 to 10:00 P.M.  Tickets:  $8.00 in advance; $10.00 at Door (adults) and $5.00 (children under 10 years of age.)  Call 732-602-8634 for the scary details

WPD Encourages Safe “Trick-or-Treating during “Haunted Halloween”

The Woodbridge Police Department (WPD) will be watching out for ‘ghosts and goblins’ as part of special Halloween patrols and the Health Department is available to provide information on healthy treats.  The WPD will enforce a special Halloween curfew on the evenings of Sun., Oct. 30 (Mischief Night) and Mon., Oct. 31 (Halloween).  While scary fun is great, special safety reminders and precautions will be in place in order to keep Township “trick-or-treaters” out of harm’s way.  The curfew is in place from 7:00 P.M. to sunrise on Sun., Oct. 30 and Mon., Oct. 31 and applies to everyone under the age of 18 (unless accompanied by a parent, guardian, or responsible adult).  Police will issue a warning and instructions to return home to first-time violators; second offense violators will be taken into custody and held until picked up by a parent or guardian.  The WPD also issued important Halloween safety precautions for “trick or treat”... go to: www.twp.woodbridge.nj.us for Halloween safety tips.

Mayor’s Health Expo Opens on Saturday

The Woodbridge Department of Health & Human Services and the Mayor’s Wellness Campaign host the annual Mayor’s Health Expo on Sat., Oct. 22,  2016 from 9:00 A.M. to Noon at the Woodbridge Health Center (2 George Frederick Plaza.)  Plan to stop by the Health Expo for FREE or reduced-cost health screening tests which help monitor medical conditions and provide vital patient-care information.  Seasonal flu shots are available (FREE to Medicare patients; $15.00 for non-Medicare).  Health Expo visitors will find information on the Affordable Health Care Act, along with information on health-related topics including Social Security, Medicare, pharmacy assistance, substance abuse, domestic violence and more.  Area health care providers and medical assistance agencies will be on-hand to provide information on health-care products, services and programs. Free cooking demonstrations by Wegmans of Woodbridge target healthy diet and menu selections.
