March 15, 2007

Residents & Businesses Reminded to Remove Vehicles from Streets
To Keep Snow Emergency Routes Open

WTT-35 To Air Weather & Storm-Related Information

Woodbridge Township Mayor John E. McCormac today issued a Township-wide winter weather advisory reminding residents and business owners to remove vehicles from streets in order to keep snow emergency routes open for plowing and snow removal operations should they become necessary over the next 24-48 hours. Residents in flood-prone areas should move vehicles to higher ground and be prepared to undertake emergency procedures should the Office of Emergency Management issue specific warnings. The winter weather advisory is in effect from 9:00 p.m. on Thurs., March 15 to 9:00 a.m. on Sat., March 17.

Mayor McCormac noted that the Department of Public Works closely monitors weather conditions and is at the ready to begin plowing, salting, and appropriate public safety operations should a predicted winter storm result in accumulated snow or ice. Township Public Works crews have been pre- scheduled to conduct around-the-clock plowing and salting operations for the upcoming 24-36 hours as needed and will concentrate plowing and salting operations on main streets and highways, hill areas, and heavily traveled thoroughfares throughout the Township. Plowing and salting operations along secondary roadways and streets will be conducted as necessary depending on storm conditions.

Township businesses and property owners are also reminded to keep sidewalks and roadways free of snow and ice. Township ordinance requires property owners to maintain clear pedestrian walkways and sidewalks by removing accumulated snow and ice from sidewalk areas within 24 hours after the end of the storm.

Mayor McCormac said that Woodbridge Township residents should tune to WTT-35 for weather information or specific storm-related announcements. Additionally, the Office of Emergency Management will monitor local storm conditions should there be a need to issue specific storm-related alerts.
