WHAT: Mayor John E. McCormac and the Municipal Council will honor the sacrifice of New Jersey and Woodbridge Township police officers killed in the line-of-duty at a Proclamation Ceremony prior to the Council meeting on Tues., May 8.

 

Members of the Woodbridge Township Police Department will receive an official send-off as they prepare to bike to Washington DC in support of the 2007 National Police Unity Bike Tour which honors the memory of police officers killed in the line-of-duty. Woodbridge Township Patrolman Leonard Gigantino will lead the Woodbridge P.D. contingent for the tenth consecutive year.

 

The Woodbridge Police Department will unveil marked police vehicles which display the statewide “Fallen Law Enforcement Officers Memorial License Plate.” The fallen officer license plate program was initiated in honor of Long Branch PD Sgt. Patrick King killed in the line-of-duty in 1997. Woodbridge Township has lost two officers killed in the line-of-duty – P.O. Alvin Williams, killed in the line-of-duty on Sept. 6, 1979 and P.O. Joseph Lewis, killed in the line-of-duty on Sept. 18, 1932. Mrs. Sarah Williams is expected to participate in the Proclamation ceremonies.
