Woodbridge MayorFrank G. Pelzman, State SenatorJoseph Vitale (19 th District), Woodbridge School Superintendent Vincent Smith and Woodbridge Township HistorianJeffrey Huber will speak on the importance of local history. Students and teachers from Avenel Middle School will discuss the curriculum and their experiences in designing their history projects.

Woodbridge was founded in 1664 by New England Puritans and chartered as a Township by English sovereign Charles II in 1669. At one time the Township encompassed a larger area that now includes Carteret, Rahway, Bonhamtown, Metuchen and the eastern part of Raritan Township.

“ As the oldest township in New Jersey, Woodbridge has nearly three-and-a-half centuries of distinguished history to share,” says Mayor Pelzman. “We are thrilled that the Board of Education has crafted a program that will pass this knowledge to our children.”

Supt. Smith agrees. “Giving students a solid grounding in the roots of their community is essential for developing a well-rounded adult. We are grateful to everyone who worked so hard to design this program and get it functioning smoothly in the curriculum.”
