TV Underwriter Revenue Adds to Woodbridge Township Coffers

March 10, 2004

In this era of ever-tightening municipal budgets, revenue from non-traditional sources is especially welcome. As part of a new underwriting sponsorship campaign, Woodbridge Municipal Television has brought in $12,000 from 10 local business underwriters. The businesses are featured on bulletin board segments that appear on Channel 35 (WTT-35), twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. "This is the first time this revenue source has been included in the Township fiscal budget," says Woodbridge Mayor Frank G. Pelzman. "It is an example of a government service that also earns income. The taxpayer benefits twice." Channels 35 and 36, Woodbridge Township's award-winning local television stations, have operated jointly since 2003, with Channel 35 covering a wide range of municipal activities and Channel 36 covering issues and events within the school district. While both stations have distinct programming missions, the stations share personnel, equipment, scheduling and production resources. "This is an excellent example of fiscal gain through resource pooling," said the Mayor. "Our television service has continued to offer fine quality programming while remaining cost-effective." The Woodbridge Channels have been the recipients of national Telly and Cable Ace Awards, as well a Hometown Video Award for the televising of concerts and cultural events at the Barron Arts Center and coverage of Woodbridge history and civic events. Joint program schedules for the Woodbridge Channels are available at all four branches of the Woodbridge Township Public Library, Evergreen Senior Center, Barron Arts Center, Woodbridge Community Center and the Health Center. The Woodbridge Township web site also lists shows and air times.
