Mayor Frank G. Pelzman will join New Jersey Transit officials and legislative Transportation Chair Assemblyman John S. Wisniewski (D-19) in a walking tour of the planned improvements to the Woodbridge train station Monday, Aug. 22, at 2:30 p.m.

“We are pleased New Jersey Transit is investing in its host communities,” says Mayor Pelzman. “The more than 1,600 daily commuters using the Woodbridge train station have a major economic impact on our downtown businesses. These upgrades will make traveling to and from Woodbridge on New Jersey Transit an even more pleasurable experience.”

The Woodbridge Platform Reconstruction Project includes the demolition and removal of the existing 800-foot concrete platform and canopies built in the 1930s, installation of a new foundation system, concrete high level platforms, canopies, stairs, lighting and tactile edging. Modifications to the existing vendor space on Pearl Street will include the creation of accessible public restrooms.

The existing station building, which currently closes at 1 p.m., will be replaced with larger waiting areas that will be open to customers 24 hours a day. Upon completion, commuters will be protected from inclement weather under new glass-enclosed shelters equipped with translucent windscreens and heaters. Customers will also benefit from new and enhanced signage, benches, passenger information display boards and waste receptacles.

“Our public transportation system needs to be safe and easily accessible to all riders,” says Assemblyman Wisniewski (D-19), Chairman of the Assembly Transportation Committee. “Making these improvements will improve safety for riders and provide easier access to the trains for people with disabilities.”
