Acting Mayor Praises Community Generosity, Cites Need for Continued Support
The opening night of the 2006 Mayor’s Summer Concert Series brought in 4,500 pounds of much-needed supplies for the Township’s food bank network, announced ActingMayor Patricia Osborne.
Patrons who attend the concerts are encouraged to donate canned goods and non-perishable food items that are given to the Woodbridge Food Bank. Monday’s concert by Kenny Vance & The Planotones drew a record one-night donation total.
Many food banks close in summer because of a drastic seasonal drop-off in donations, noted Ms. Osborne, even though demand for assistance increases. “We are fortunate that our local food banks can remain open because of the community’s vigilance and concern.”
The Mayor’s Summer Concert Series continues each Monday through August 28. “We hope the donation total rises with each concert,” said Ms. Osborne.
The ongoing need for donations continues, however, and Ms. Osborne urged people to drop off canned goods and other non-perishables at the Woodbridge Township Health Center on George Frederick Plaza between Woodbridge High School and the Main Library. Donations are accepted Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
