Woodbridge Township, Middlesex County Freeholders Present Live Bands, Classic Films
The popular waterfront attraction "Sewaren Summerfest" returns for another year, as Woodbridge Township and the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders present free music and movies at Alvin P. Williams Memorial Park in Sewaren, Mayor Frank G. Pelzman has announced
"Our Movies in the Park series was so successful last year, we wanted to bring it back with something extra," said the Mayor. "We'll not only be showing movies but presenting live local bands."
The music begins at 6:30 p.m. followed by the feature film showing at 8:30 p.m. Free refreshments are provided by Royal Albert's Palace. The music-movie pairings scheduled are:
July 15: Primitive Soul and Forrest Gump
July 22: Gibbler and The Wizard of Oz
July 29: TJ & The Crests and Peter Pan
On August 12 at 6:30 p.m. there is a special free concert (no movie) featuring jazz vocalist Sandy Sasso and Friends. Musical performers appear through the Music Performance Trust Funds arranged by Locals #204-373 and #746, American Federation of Musicians.
"We are thrilled about combining our annual music series with Woodbridge Township's excellent film program," says Stephen "Pete" Dalina, Middlesex County Freeholder Deputy Director and Chairman of the County Department of Parks and Recreation. "Where else in the county can you go on a Thursday night and get great music, great food and a great movie all for free?"
Sewaren Summerfest is presented in conjunction with the Mayor's Youth Advisory Committee of Woodbridge Township. "The students on the Committee chose the movies, and they volunteer at the events," says Woodbridge Councilwoman Patricia Osborne, who serves as Township liaison to the Committee. "This is one more way of bringing the community together."
