Apr. 4, 2006

Barron Arts Center Presents Exhibit, Awards on 3 Evenings Starting Apr. 3

Thanks to a unique program that showcases aspiring student artists, the visual arts will be alive and well in Woodbridge for at least another generation.

One hundred sixty-two Woodbridge Township public and private school students spanning grades K-12 will display their original creative art work over the course of three Studentworks 2006 exhibits at the Barron Arts Center, 582 Rahway Ave. in Woodbridge.

Art work by elementary students is featured in the gallery from April 1-6 with reception April 3 at 7 p.m.

Art work by middle school students is featured in the gallery from April 8-13 with reception April 10 at 7 p.m.

Art work by high school students is featured in the gallery from April 22-30 with reception April 25 at 7 p.m.

The viewings and receptions are free and open to the public. Barron Arts Center gallery hours are Monday-Friday 11 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday-Sunday 2-4 p.m. For information call (732) 634-0413.

Each student receives a special Mayor’s Citation from Woodbridge Mayor Frank G. Pelzman. “ Woodbridge has a strong and diverse artistic heritage, especially in the realm of visual arts,” says Pelzman. “This is an excellent way to keep that tradition healthy and active.”

The Studentworks series is one of a number of several art events hosted throughout the year by the Barron Arts Center. “We’ve been hosting a wide variety of New Jersey artists for three decades,” says Cynthia Knight, the Center’s Executive Director. “Hopefully, some of these students exhibiting today will grow up to have their adult artwork shown at the Barron in years to come.”
