OEM Receives Grant for Bio-Attack Preparation
|
April 19, 2004
Though the subject of bio-terrorism has received less media attention of late, local communities in New Jersey have continued to increase their readiness for emergencies involving biological contamination.
The Woodbridge Township Office of Emergency Management has received a grant of $2,406 to prepare a plan for distributing antidotes to the public in case of a bio-terror attack, Mayor Frank G. Pelzman announced.
The funds were awarded by the State and Local All Hazards Emergency Operation Planning (SLAHEOP) Program of the New Jersey State Police. The grant enables the Woodbridge OEM to set up three sites where antidotes would be distributed to the public in the event of a bio-terror emergency.
"Preparation is an ongoing part of the emergency management process," said Mayor Pelzman. "Homeland security starts with hometown security, and we are glad the New Jersey State Police are providing assistance to municipalities for this crucial area of public safety."
