WHAT: Elementary Students Host Lunch for Menlo Park Veterans

WHEN: Tues. April 12, 11:30 a.m.

Mayor Frank G. Pelzman will attend and speak at a lunch given by students for veterans on April 12 at 11:30 a.m. at School #9, 77 Turner Street, Port Reading.

Since last fall, two dozen students in Ms. Sherry Miller’s second grade class raised $1,200 in candy sales to host a lunch for 16 Menlo Park Veterans Home residents. The effort was part of a class-based Community of Caring project.

The Menlo Park Veterans Home is a long-term care facility where 272 former servicemen reside. They represent veterans of World War II and the Korean and Vietnam conflicts.

The lunch is catered by J.J. Bitting’s of Woodbridge with donations by other area businesses including Thomas Sweet’s Ice Cream Shop, Pathmark and Hilton Hotel.
