WHAT: Top TV Ballroom Dancers to Receive Special Proclamation … Winners of PBS “ America’s Ballroom Challenge” Highlight 2006 National Dance Week Celebration

WHEN: Tuesday, April 25, 6:45 p.m.

WHERE: Council Chambers, Town Hall, 1 Main Street, Woodbridge, NJ

WHO: Andre Gavriline and Elena Kryuchkova (world dance champions) and Melanie LaPatin (World Cup Dance Champion, film dancer)

The talented dance duo whose elegant, passionate footwork electrified millions of viewers on the recent PBS America’s Ballroom Challenge will appear before Woodbridge Township Council to receive a special Mayor’s Proclamation from Mayor Frank G. Pelzman.

Fords residents Andre Gavriline and Elena Kryuchkova will be honored at 6:45 p.m., Tuesday, April 25 at Council Chambers in Town Hall, 1 Main Street, Woodbridge.

Accompanying them will be renowned ballroom dancer Melanie LaPatin, dance partner of America’s Ballroom Challenge co-host Tony Meredith, and holder of numerous world dance trophies.

Since moving from Moscow to the U.S. in 1999, Andre and Elena have dominated the field of professional Latin-style Ballroom Dancing. Their resume includes winning two U.S. National Championships in Latin American Dance, taking the coveted British Rising Star Latin American Dance Championship and representing the United States in the World Latin American Dance Championships three times.

The proclamation honors the couple’s efforts as performers and dance educators along with the declaration of National Dance Week (April 24-30, 2006). Andre and Elena offer seminars throughout the country and are on the teaching staff at the Paragon Ballroom in Roselle Park, New Jersey.

“ Woodbridge is fortunate to be the home of many noted artists,” says Mayor Pelzman. “Andre and Elena have elevated their art form to new heights of acclaim, and we are proud to have the opportunity to recognize their achievements.”
