Woodbridge Township resident Jenny Rosetti will ride 560 miles to raise $10,000 for HIV-infected children’s medical needs

Woodbridge Township resident Jenny Rosetti has the leg and lung power needed to take on next week’s 560-mile Empire State AIDS Bicycle Ride. Now she just needs a dose of dollar power.

Along with some 500 other cause-committed riders, the 41-year-old mother of two will pedal from Niagara Falls to New York City from August 15-21 to raise funds and consciousness for AIDS research and treatment. Jenny seeks a minimum of $10,000 in sponsorships – the bill for six months of medicine for an HIV-infected child.

She is less than $2,000 short of the amount and is asking area residents and businesses to donate to her cause.

“I know I cannot save the world,” she said. “However, if I can help one person, then all the miles that I have pedaled and all the money I have raised will have been worth it.”

Bike riding for worthy causes is not new to Rosetti. She rode in last year’s 350-mile Northeast AIDS Ride from Bear Mountain to Boston and has ridden in Multiple Sclerosis bike tours from Sandy Hook to Cape May.

“It is a great thing to see an ordinary individual take on this extraordinary degree of responsibility for helping others,” said Woodbridge Mayor Frank G. Pelzman. “Jenny’s spirit and dedication as she embarks on this challenge is a fine example to us all. We wish her every success in raising funds and accomplishing the ride, and we hope other Township residents will support her as our standard-bearer in this worthy effort.”

Jenny admits that before she began riding for causes, she barely trundled a bike around the corner. “Why do I ride? When I think of all the people that have died from this disease, including over six million children, it breaks my heart. If just riding a bicycle can make a difference, how can you not try?”
