Woodbridge Council Approves Sewer Cleaning Contract

Jan. 5, 2006

Mayor cites positive environmental impact, budget savings for aggressive root control effort

At its Jan. 3 meeting, Woodbridge Township Council voted to award a contract to National Water MainCleaning Company of Newark to remove tree roots from the Township’s sanitary sewer system, Mayor Frank G. Pelzman has announced.

The vapor root control treatment will restore 133,832 linear feet of sanitary sewer lines to pristine operating condition in 540 locations throughout the Township.

“This is an aggressive root control program that takes an environmentally sound approach,” says Mayor Pelzman. “Over the years roots intrude into sewer lines, blocking flow and eventually causing backup. The preventive maintenance treatment we are undertaking will avoid the cost of replacing blocked sewer lines and result in significant future savings.”
