Woodbridge Begins Township-Wide Road Repair Program

June 22, 2005

Mayor Cites Infrastructure, Safety Benefits; 50 Streets Slated for 2005 Repair

Woodbridge Township’s comprehensive road repair program began this week in the Fords and Hopelawn sections, Mayor Frank G. Pelzman has announced.

“During the next several months our streets will undergo a far-reaching milling and repaving program that will resurface 50 thorofares by the end of 2005,” says Mayor Pelzman.

The Fords and Hopelawn streets on schedule for repaving during the next few weeks are: Mary Avenue, James Street, Clyde Avenue, Lafayette Road, Burnham Drive, Fairfield Avenue, Maxwell Avenue and Harned Avenue.

Because utility lines are not displaced, the work will be accomplished quickly, says Mayor Pelzman. “This method allows us to resurface many more miles of roads than by attempting a total rebuilding of the street. The result for the motorist and pedestrian will be more roads repaired faster.”

The milling and repaving program grew out of a successful 2003 inter-local services agreement with Middlesex County that repaired a dozen roads. Councilman Richard Dalina brought the agreement to the Council’s notice with the suggestion of expanding it to include more streets. “This is an example of our ongoing commitment to improving our infrastructure,” says Mr. Dalina.

The first phase of the current program will cost approximately $2.5 million, funded from the Township budget. “This was an investment we felt we needed to make now,” says Mayor Pelzman. “A comprehensive road repaving program of this kind helps traffic flow and increases safety for motorists.”
