WOODBRIDGE MAYOR JOHN E. McCORMAC ANNOUNCES TOWNSHIP-WIDE SPRING CLEAN-UP WITH PERMIT-FREE GARAGE SALE(S) & FREE BULK WASTE PICK-UP |
March 29, 2007
Mayor John E. McCormac today announced a first-ever Township-wide Spring clean-up that features permit-free Saturday and Sunday garage sale(s) in each of the Township’s five wards followed by free curb-side bulk waste pick-up on the Wednesday after the garage sale. The Woodbridge Spring clean-up program is part of the continuing effort to improve municipal services without expanding costs – Mayor McCormac’s ongoing “Quality of Life” program for Township residents.
In announcing the first phase of the Township-wide Spring clean-up, Mayor McCormac said that beginning on Sat., April 28 and Sun., April 29, Ward 1 residents will be the first community to have permit-free garage sales. Following the garage sales, unsold items and bulk waste will be picked-up free-of-charge by the Township Public Works Department on Wed., May 2. Garage sale(s) and bulk waste pick-up in Wards 2, 3, 4 and 5 will follow on subsequent weekends (except during the Memorial Day week).
“The tradition of Spring cleaning will have a new look in Woodbridge this April and May with the opportunity for residents to have a permit-free garage sale. And, what you don’t sell or give away on Saturday and Sunday will be picked-up at curbside for free the following Wednesday,” Mayor McCormac said. “Residents will be receiving a post card announcing the dates for their neighborhood clean-up and garage sale, along with information about the Spring clean-up program. So, take advantage of the opportunity – what you don’t sell, leave on the curb for disposal.”

Henry noted that the rules and regulations for special bulk waste pick-up remain in effect for the Wednesday curb pick-up. Bulk waste items for pick-up include furniture, carpeting, wood, appliances, and mixed metals (place metals separately.) Wood must be cut to 4’ length, nails removed, tied and bundled and not weighing more than 75 pounds. Other bulk waste should be bundled or tied, and/or placed in bags and containers not weighing more than 75 pounds.
Bulk waste items that WILL NOT be picked-up include hazardous waste, paint containers, tires, etc. The bulk waste items must be placed curbside after 4:00 p.m. on the Tuesday before the Wednesday pick-up. For more information about bulk waste pick-up, contact the Woodbridge Township Department of Public Works at 732-738-1311 x3049 or log-on to the Woodbridge Township Web page at www.twp.woodbridge.nj.us (click on Recycling).
The garage sale/bulk waste pick-up program is limited to Woodbridge Township residents and residences. Only residential waste (no commercial waste) will be picked-up. Non-resident dumping is prohibited. The Woodbridge Police Department, in conjunction with the Public Works Department, will be conducting special patrols to prevent non-Township residents from dumping waste and debris. Violators will be arrested and prosecuted pursuant to state and local illegal dumping statutes and ordinances.
“As I travel from Avenel, Colonia, and Fords, to Hopelawn, Iselin, Keasbey, Menlo Park Terrace, Port Reading, Sewaren, and Woodbridge, I have seen a real effort by residents to maintain their neighborhoods and to keep them clean and free of junk and debris. We will continue to provide municipal services to help in those efforts,” Mayor McCormac said.
Mayor McCormac previously announced the purchase of new and upgraded construction and paving equipment which will allow the Department of Public Works to r epave and repair municipal parking lots, library and school district facilities, as well as smaller neighborhood streets. The goal of the program is to reduce the cost of maintaining municipal infrastructure by eliminating the need to subcontract much of the repaving work that can be accomplished by the Department of Public Works. The end result will be a more efficient repaving program that will lead to more streets being repaved quicker and at a reduction in cost.
“The Municipal Council is pleased to join the Mayor in announcing the upcoming Spring cleanup and free bulk waste pick-up program,” said Councilwoman Patricia Osborne. “ Woodbridge stands as a leading community when it comes to providing innovative and cost effective municipal services. We anticipate that Township residents will take advantage of this program.”
