WOODBRIDGE WAGING AGGRESSIVE WAR AGAINST POTHOLES

February 23, 2004

Even as winter winds down, Woodbridge Township officials continue to make pothole repair a priority. From February 2 through February 20, the Department of Public Works cleared potholes from 277 streets and 478 locations throughout Woodbridge Township in response to calls to the Township's pothole hotline, said Mayor Frank G. Pelzman. "The response on the part of our public works employees has been phenomenal," said the Mayor. "They jumped on the pothole problem and continue to stay on top of it." The hotline (732-726-2325) was launched in 2003 at the suggestion of Councilwoman Brenda Yori Velasco. It asks residents to leave a detailed message as to the location of the pothole. Gerald MacIntyre, Woodbridge Township Director of Public Works, said he has three or four crews out on the roads making pothole repairs on any given work day. "Thanks to the hotline, we are able to respond quickly," said Mr. MacIntyre. He pointed out that when a call comes in regarding a pothole that is not on a Township-owned street, the appropriate county or state officials are notified. "If the pothole is on a street that we cannot repair, we contact someone who can," said Mr. MacIntyre, adding that Township road crews are continuing to make repairs on a daily basis. The Mayor said he appreciates the patience residents have shown. "In a township this size, it can take a while to respond to all of the pothole complaints," he said. "I commend our residents for being patient. I assure everyone that each and every pothole complaint will receive a rapid response."
