Woodbridge Police Substation Promotes Holiday Safety

Township Offers Extra Security for Influx of Mall Visitors

The Woodbridge Township Police Department has opened its substation at Woodbridge Center for the holiday shopping season, Mayor Frank G. Pelzman and Police Chief William Trenery have announced.

The substation provides extra police presence at Woodbridge Center in order to enhance the safety of the tens of thousands of shoppers expected to be at the mall during December. It will be open through the holiday season.

In addition to being staffed at the substation, extra officers will be on patrol inside the mall and in the parking lot.

“Our police will be a constant presence at Woodbridge Center during the holiday rush,” said the Mayor. “Shoppers can also help themselves stay safe by following a few shopping safety tips.”

Shoppers are advised to:

-- Avoid shopping alone

-- Keep track of belongings

-- Keep pocket books zipped

-- Have keys in your hand while walking to your car

-- Try to park in lighted areas

The substation is located at the lower level Fortunoff wing and is open during mall hours. Chief Trenery urges shoppers to report anything suspicious to police. “Shoppers can be our eyes and ears and keep themselves safe by helping us,” said the Chief.
