Woodbridge Receives $20,000 Pedestrian Safety Grant

Apr. 10, 2006

Mayor praises “innovative and important” educational program

Mayor Frank G. Pelzman has announced that the Woodbridge Township Police Department has received a $20,000 grant from the state Division of Highway Traffic Safety to fund pedestrian safety seminars.

During March, Mayor Pelzman and Officer Eric I. Nelson of the WPD Traffic Enforcement Unit visited the Township’s senior clubs to deliver tips on safe walking and driving. Brochures, posters and other safety handouts were also given out as a followup to Officer Nelson’s lecture.

“This is an innovative program and an important one,” says Mayor Pelzman. “As a major highway crossroads, Woodbridge Township has a consistently high traffic volume as well as a growing number of senior drivers and pedestrians. Taking a proactive approach in this area is critical.”

Officer Nelson hopes the program will be expanded to schools. “Most of what we cover in the seminar is common-sense knowledge,” he says. “But traffic safety is a topic that benefits from frequent reminders no matter what age you are.”
