Community and business leaders will gather Wednesday to celebrate the $4.2 million road and streetscape improvements made to New Brunswick Avenue during the last year, Mayor Frank G. Pelzman has announced.

A press conference featuring Mayor Pelzman and Middlesex County Freeholder Director David Crabiel will be held Nov. 2 at 8:30 a.m. in front of Fords Jewelers, 449 New Brunswick Avenue.

The project has encompassed New Brunswick Avenue from Ford Avenue to Route 440, widening and resurfacing the street and adding new curbs, new sidewalks, brick pavers and curb ramps for the handicapped as well as improvements to the intersection at Crows Mill Road.

The New Brunswick Avenue project comes on the heels of the Phase 1 completion of the Township’s comprehensive road repair program that resurfaced 53 thorofares in four months.

The New Brunswick Avenue project has been funded entirely by the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders. “My thanks to the Freeholders for making this possible,” says Mayor Pelzman. “Their commitment will enable us to beautify the Fords Business District and make it much easier to travel on New Brunswick Avenue.”

Freeholder Director David B. Crabiel says the county considers the project a top priority. “Improving New Brunswick Avenue is a critical component for a healthy commercial enclave,” says Freeholder Crabiel.

Planners believe the project will prove a tremendous boost to the district. “The improved roadway will revitalize the economy of the entire neighborhood,” says 2 nd Ward Councilman Richard Dalina, who represents Fords.

“The improvements to New Brunswick Avenue will be a great thing for the people of Fords,” says Council President James Carroll, a Fords resident. “It will entice shoppers to come to Fords and support the businesses along the Avenue.”
