Woodbridge Offers Free Symposium on Medicare Drug Changes
|
November 21, 2005
The Woodbridge Township Health and Human Services Department’s Division on Aging will sponsor a free Symposium on the New Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Program , Mayor Frank G. Pelzman has announced.
The symposium takes place Nov. 29 from 9:30 a.m.-noon at Evergreen Senior Center, 400 Inman Avenue, Colonia. Registration by Nov. 23 is required by calling (732) 382-5544 or (732) 855-0600 ext. 5023.
Representatives from the Division on Aging and the New Jersey State Health Insurance Assistance Program will be on hand to provide information and answer questions regarding the changes in the Medicare Part D Prescription Drug program that begin Jan. 1, 2006 for persons enrolled in Medicare.
Although Medicare Part D is funded by the federal government, it will be administered by private insurance companies through government-approved Prescription Drug Plans or PDP’s. Participation in the program is voluntary but requires individuals to choose among several plans.
The Division on Aging office reports it has convened the symposium in response to numerous calls about the new program and its impact on existing prescription drug plans.
“It is important that residents who are eligible for benefits under the new law take a step-by-step approach to considering their existing coverage, future needs and available options,” says Mayor Pelzman. “We urge anyone with questions about Medicare Part D to attend this symposium.”
