Mayor Frank G. Pelzman will roll out the first ball at the annual Woodbridge Bowl-a-thonAgainst Muscular Dystrophy, May 20 from 1-4 p.m. at Woodbridge Bowling Center, 346 Main Street, Woodbridge.

The event is sponsored by Woodbridge International Association of FirefightersLocal 290 , now in its 52 nd consecutive year of supporting the Muscular Dystrophy Association cause.

In the main match, the Woodbridge squad will face off against Perth Amboy IAFF Local 286. Anyone is welcome to attend the event for free. The cost to bowl during the fundraiser is $30 per bowler, with all proceeds going to the national Muscular Dystrophy Association. For information call (732) 602-6030.

“The residents of Woodbridge Township owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to the brave, dedicated firefighters who serve the community with distinction in a multitude of ways,” says Mayor Pelzman. “The IAFF’s commitment to the Muscular Dystrophy Association is a special inspiration for everyone involved in charitable fundraising.”

Since its inception in 1929, Local 290 (representing firefighters from Woodbridge, Fords, Port Reading) has been at the forefront of campaigns supporting numerous community causes, among them the Peter F. Smith Scholarship Fund, St. Barnabas Burn Foundation, Kiddie Keep Well Summer Camp and Woodbridge Township Food Bank, along with education programs for grade schools, purchasing fans for senior citizens, aiding numerous youth athletic associations and establishing the Township’s emergency medical first responder program.
