“Johnny Maestro & Brooklyn Bridge” Bring Classic Pop Sound to Woodbridge Aug. 2

Original Crests' Frontman Has Sold Over 20 Million Records in Versatile Career

WOODBRIDGE – The glory days of rock 'n' roll return to Woodbridge August 2 as the Mayor's Summer Concert Series presents Johnny Maestro & The Brooklyn Bridge in a free outdoor concert.

The music of Johnny Maestro spans the entire Rock'n'Roll Era, with doo-wop hits from his 1950s' stint as lead singer of The Crests ("Sixteen Candles", "Trouble In Paradise", "Step By Step", "The Angels Listened In", "Six Nights A Week") and backup vocalist on all of Dion's solo efforts, through his stellar 1960s-'70s work with the Del-Satins and early Brooklyn Bridge ensembles ("The Worst That Could Happen", "Welcome Me Love", "Blessed Is The Rain", "Your Husband My Wife", "You'll Never Walk Alone").

A perennial favorite among New Jersey's oldies fans , Johnny Maestro & The Brooklyn Bridge have ascended to the top of the classic rock concert circuit with unforgettable live performances. “We are thrilled to have Johnny Maestro back once again,” said Woodbridge Mayor Frank G. Pelzman . “This is a show that covers the full range of rock-and-roll artistry in its prime.”

The free concerts occur Monday nights through August 30 on the grass fields behind Woodbridge High School. Sansone's Route 1 Auto Mall is the prime series sponsor, with secondary sponsorship by ShopRite. The Johnny Maestro & The Brooklyn Bridge show is sponsored by Comcast.

The Mayor's Summer Concert Series not only nourishes musical appetites but helps sustain the coffers at the Woodbridge Food Bank. Concertgoers are asked to bring non-perishable food items for deposit in special collection bins. “Summer months always put a strain on local food pantries,” says Mayor Pelzman. “Last year, the generous people of Woodbridge donated an incredible amount of food during the series.”

Festivities begin with a disc jockey at 6 p.m. and a 7:30 p.m. start for the concerts. Audience members are urged to bring blankets and lawn chairs, and refreshments are available in the food court.

The 2004 Mayor's Summer Concert Series continues with Infernos (Aug. 9), Larry Chance & The Earls (Aug. 16), Cornell Gunter's Coasters (Aug. 23), Party Dolls (Aug. 30).
