Lowe’s Donates Equipment to Woodbridge Fire Safety Education Program |
December 23, 2004
As part of its ongoing community affairs commitment, Lowe’s will donate home fire safety products to the fire safety program taught in local elementary schools by Woodbridge Fire Department No. 1, announced Mayor Frank G. Pelzman.
The fire company’s Adopt-a-School Reading Program began in November, 2004, said Lt. Bryan DeLisi, and is currently geared to grades K-3. “Our fire safety educators read a story, then give a homework assignment that has the children survey the fire safety equipment at home. When we visit again, we collect the results, review them and see what households appear to need fire safety equipment. It is a good way to get families talking together about fire safety.”
Lowe’s donation of smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors and fire extinguishers will be distributed by the fire department through the program and are earmarked for families that cannot afford them, said Scott Miller, Lowe’s Department Manager of Hardware and Tools.
“Lowe’s believes community involvement extends beyond the boundaries of the traditional retail setting,” Michael Landis , Operations Manager for Lowe’s store #1658 in Woodbridge . “Whether it's helping with natural disaster recovery or taking an active role in programs that make our neighborhoods better places to live, we are committed to helping build strong communities.”
Mayor Pelzman noted the home improvement company’s history of reaching out to its host communities. “We are very pleased Lowe’s approached us with their generous equipment donations. These gifts will help save lives.”
Lowe’s has ongoing partnerships with the American Red Cross, United Way, Habitat for Humanity and the Home Safety Council. In addition, the Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation gives more than $2 million dollars each year to support educational and community projects across the country.
