Bagged Collection Rules Aim to Increase Efficiency of Pickup, Processing

Biodegradable leaf collection bags will be distributed free of charge at several locations in Woodbridge Township throughout October, Mayor Frank G. Pelzman has announced.

“Our mandatory leaf bagging program has been incredibly successful,” says Mayor Pelzman. “It has enabled us to save taxpayers a substantial amount of money on leaf collection and disposal.”

Leaves will be collected in the biodegradable paper bags only and cannot be mixed with other types of waste. Plastic bags will not be acceptable during the Fall collection program.

Residents may obtain a limited amount of free bags from 5-8 p.m. on these dates:

▪ Oct. 3 and 17 Woodbridge Main Library, 2 George Frederick Plaza

▪ Oct. 4 and 18 Evergreen Senior Center, 400 Inman Avenue, Colonia

▪ Oct. 5 and 19 District 9 Firehouse, 1222 Green Street , Iselin

▪ Oct. 11 and 25 Lafayette Estates School #25, 500 Ford Avenue, Fords

Two Saturday distributions will occur from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 22 at Woodbridge Town Hall and Oct. 29 at Woodbridge Main Library. Starting Oct. 3, free bags may be obtained at the Public Works Complex, 225 Smith Street in Keasbey, from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays.

The leaf collection program will begin the week of November 1 and conclude the week of December 9. In order to implement the program, the Township will temporarily replace one weekly trash pickup with a weekly collection of bagged leaves and suspend bulk waste pick-ups for the months of November and December. There will be no special pickups while the leaf collection program is in effect.
