Mayor cites ongoing commitment to improve school pedestrian safety

Woodbridge Township has received a $7,500 grant from Keep Middlesex Moving, Inc. to enhance safe walking routes for school children.

Woodbridge is one of four municipalities to receive a 2006 Municipal TDM Award. The other municipalities are Piscataway, Metuchen and Jamesburg.

Mayor Frank G. Pelzman received the award for Woodbridge Township at yesterday’s annual membership meeting of Keep Middlesex Moving, Inc. held at Forsgate Country Club in Monroe.

The funding will allow Woodbridge Township to extend the sidewalk near School 19 in Menlo Park Terrace, says Mayor Pelzman , and will create an additional safe route for students presently walking to school.

“We greatly appreciate Keep Middlesex Moving making these innovative grants possible,” says Mayor Pelzman. “We are always seeking ways to improve traffic flow throughout the Township, and we are especially concerned with the safety of our children walking to and from school.

Keep Middlesex Moving, Inc. is a non-profit transportation management association that sponsors a range of programs designed to improve mobility, reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality in Middlesex County.
