Sen. Vitale sworn in as Woodbridge Twp. Interim Mayor

July 26, 2006

State Senator Joseph F. Vitale (D-Middlesex) was sworn in last night as Interim Mayor for Woodbridge Township following a unanimous confirming vote by the Township Council.

Sen. Vitale succeeds Acting Mayor and continuing Council President Patricia Osborne, who assumed responsibilities of the Mayor’s office following the June 29 death of Mayor Frank G. Pelzman.

Sen. Vitale will serve as Interim Mayor until the popularly elected winner of a November 7, 2006, Special Mayoral Election is certified and sworn in.

“I am honored to accept the decision of the Council,” said Sen. Vitale, “though it is a position I accept with sadness due to the untimely death of our friend and leader, Frank Pelzman. I believe the unity and support the community has already shown will guide us through this period of adjustment.”

Sen. Vitale stated that his first order of business as Interim Mayor will be to sign an Executive Order that allows him to decline his mayoral salary and benefits.
