Woodbridge Joins County Hurricane Relief Effort

Sept. 8, 2005

Middlesex municipalities will collect non-perishables Sept. 9-16

Woodbridge Township is participating in the county-wide effort to collect non-perishable goods for victims of Hurricane Katrina, Mayor Frank G. Pelzman has announced.

The collection effort is set to run Sept. 9-16. Middlesex County residents are asked to bring peanut butter, canned pasta, canned chili, canned beef stew, energy bars and disposable diapers to a locally designated collection site in their municipality.

Mayors from Middlesex County will hold a press conference today, Thursday, Sept. 8 at 3 p.m. in the Middlesex County Administration Building, 75 Bayard Street, 1 st floor, New Brunswick to discuss details. Call Anne Gordon at (732) 562-7627 for information.

The collected items will be delivered to Community Food Bank of New Jersey in Hillside, working under the auspices of America’s Second Harvest, the nation’s largest hunger-relief network.

Woodbridge Township residents are asked to bring their non-perishables to Woodbridge Fire Company #1, 418 School Street, Woodbridge. Hours of collection are 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

In addition, four Woodbridge Township firehouses will continue to accept cases of bottled drinking water and new or unused blankets daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. The firehouses are:

-- Woodbridge Fire Company No. 1, 418 School Street, Woodbridge

-- Fords Fire Department, 667 King Georges Post Road, Fords

-- Port Reading Fire Department, 916 West Avenue, Port Reading

-- Iselin Volunteer Fire Company, 1222 Green Street, Iselin

“We are prepared to do whatever we can to mobilize the resources of our Township and our generous residents on behalf of those needing aid,” says Mayor Pelzman.
