Woodbridge Armory, Firehouses Serve as Hurricane Aid Dropoff Sites

Sept. 6, 2005

Mayor puts Township resources at disposal of relief effort

In response to a request made by Senator Joseph Vitale and Mayor Frank G. Pelzman, New Jersey Adjutant General Major General Glenn K. Rieth confirmed that he has designated the Woodbridge Armory as the 12 th dropoff site in New Jersey for hurricane relief supplies.

The initial donation request is for drinking water only. Because of logistical and shipping constraints, only 24-count cases of plastic bottled water are being accepted at this time. For additional information, contact the New Jersey National Guard at (609) 530-7010.

The Woodbridge Armory is located at 625 Main Street in Woodbridge and will be open daily between 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

In addition, four Woodbridge Township firehouses will accept cases of bottled drinking water daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. The firehouses are:

-- Woodbridge Fire Company No. 1, 418 School Street, Woodbridge

-- Fords Fire Department, 667 King Georges Post Road, Fords

-- Port Reading Fire Department, 916 West Avenue, Port Reading

-- Iselin Volunteer Fire Company, 1222 Green Street, Iselin

“We are prepared to do whatever we can to mobilize the resources of our Township and our residents on behalf of those needing aid,” said Mayor Pelzman.

Senator Vitale affirmed the Mayor’s resolve. “The people in the Gulf region are in need of the most basic necessities to sustain human life,” said Senator Vitale. “ New Jersey’s response must be swift and effective. Thanks to Major General Rieth, Woodbridge and surrounding communities have a local dropoff site to aid in our ability to generate an effective response.”
