Woodbridge Hurricane Relief Draws Local Business Response

Sept. 29, 2005

Proceeds to benefit Katrina evacuees in Perth Amboy’s Delaney Homes

The Woodbridge “Hurricane Hot Dogs” fundraiser for Hurricane Katrina evacuees has evoked support from local businesses and well-intentioned citizens alike.

J.J. Ryan’s, ShopRite, Wegman's, Quik Chek – all of Woodbridge – and Hi-Grade Beverage in North Brunswick have chipped in to make a parking lot picnic a gala community affair.

The admission-free public picnic takes place Saturday, Oct. 1 from noon to 5 p.m. in Woodbridge Town Hall parking lot at 1 Main Street, Woodbridge, and is organized in conjunction with the Woodbridge-based Dollars for Danielle group that works throughout the year to raise funds for critically ill children.

All food sale proceeds will be donated to a fund assisting evacuee families currently in residence at Perth Amboy’s Delaney Homes public housing complex.

Featured menu items for the picnic include hot dogs, sauerkraut, chips and soda. Musical entertainment will be provided by Mr. Tunes Deejay/Entertainer. Call (732) 602-2443 for more information.

“We are prepared to do whatever we can to mobilize the resources of our Township and our generous residents on behalf of those needing aid,” says Woodbridge Mayor Frank G. Pelzman, who will give a welcoming greeting. “A community event like this brings people together so they can meet the folks who benefit from their kindness.”

Dollars for Danielle/Hurricane Hot Dogs coordinator Karen Perricone agrees. “This entire community has a big heart,” she says. “I am inviting everyone to come out and offer their support to our new neighbors and enjoy a great picnic.”

Those who cannot attend but wish to make donations can send check or money order to Dollars for Danielle, 115 Martin Terrace, Woodbridge, NJ 07095.
