Sept. 13, 2006
Woodbridge Township Library Director John Hurley has been appointed to the New Jersey Library Network Review Board, Interim Mayor Joseph F. Vitale has announced.
The Board advises the State Librarian in the areas of reference services, interlibrary loan procedures, service contracts and statewide and regional services.
“With the emergence of library automation and on-line services, the local library has become a vital information center for individuals and the community as a whole,” says Mayor Vitale. “Having a representative with Mr. Hurley’s expertise on the Board is an asset that will benefit citizens throughout the state.”
A Trustee of Rutgers University, Mr. Hurley is immediate past president of the INFOLINK Eastern New Jersey Regional Library Cooperative and serves as an alternate on the Members Council of the international library research foundation Online Computer Library Center.
Hurley notes that libraries throughout the state use the New Jersey Library Network to share services and pool resources via cooperative purchasing of online databases, interlibrary loan, supplemental reference service, cooperative planning of young people’s Summer Reading Clubs and a host of other programs benefiting tens of thousands of New Jerseyans.
“I look forward to the opportunity to provide the State Library with a local perspective on ways to leverage tax dollars to expand the services provided by the Library Network,” says Mr. Hurley.
