Mayor Cites Ongoing Need for Preparedness on Local Level
Woodbridge Township has received $140,000 from the State of New Jersey to help defray costs of local homeland security efforts, Mayor Frank G. Pelzman has announced.
The money comes from the new Municipal Homeland Security Police Assistance Aid program created by Governor James E. McGreevey as a means of reducing property taxes for municipalities. The program is administered through the State's Department of Community Affair's Division of Local Government Services and is funded through the State's FY 2005 Budget. A total of $32 million in direct aid will be divided among 472 towns across New Jersey.
"We greatly appreciate this funding and commitment by the Governor to homeland security support and property tax relief," said Mayor Pelzman. "Our police, fire and other emergency responders have been taking on enormous responsibilities since Sept. 11, 2001. This aid from the State is crucial for helping local communities stay well-prepared and well-equipped for a wide range of potential emergencies."
