Mayor Cites Ongoing Need to Upgrade Facilities Security, Communications

Woodbridge Township has received $180,000 from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to help local first responders acquire new equipment and improve security at critical chemical sites, Mayor Frank G. Pelzman has announced.

The funds are part of the Middlesex County Municipal Pass-Through Grant Program to aid municipalities in upgrading their homeland security threat prevention capabilities. The money will be distributed among nine Township fire departments, six first aid squads and the Woodbridge Police Department.

“We greatly appreciate this commitment toward helping us improve our emergency response readiness,” says Mayor Pelzman. “Our police, fire and first aid units are continually increasing the scope of their responsibilities. This grant will help us stay well-prepared and well-equipped for a wide range of potential emergencies.”

Walter Hanks , Director of the Township’s Office of Emergency Management, agrees. “These funds will be a significant aid in assessing the security needs of our facilities and then putting in place the security measures needed.”
