Fabulous Greaseband Brings Classic Rock to Woodbridge Aug. 29 |
August 17, 2005
The glory days of rock ’n’ roll give one last shout in Woodbridge as the Mayor’s Summer Concert Series concludes August 29 with an appearance by classic rockers The Greaseband.
The free concert takes place in the meadow behind Woodbridge High School. Woodbridge Center and ShopRite are the prime series sponsors. The Greaseband show is sponsored by Comfort Suites.
Festivities begin with a disc jockey at 6 p.m. and a 7:30 p.m. start for the concerts. Audience members are urged to bring blankets and lawn chairs, and refreshments are available in the food court.
“This is a great way to end a terrific summer music series,” said Mayor Frank G. Pelzman. “The Greaseband will have the audience on their feet from start to finish.”
The 7-piece ensemble was formed in 1973 by keyboardist Harry Pasquito and drummer Gary Francione when both were attending high school in central New Jersey. By 1975 the band became a full-time venture touring throughout New Jersey and the Mid-Atlantic states. These days the Greaseband plays over 200 dates a year, from high-profile political and corporate events to community festivals, private parties and nightclubs.
The Mayor’s Summer Concert Series not only nourishes musical appetites but helps sustain the coffers at the Woodbridge Food Bank. Concertgoers bringing non-perishable food items receive a chance to win special prizes, one chance for every item donated. “Summer months always put a strain on local food pantries,” says Mayor Pelzman. “Last year, the generous people of Woodbridge donated an incredible amount of food during the series. We’re hoping to repeat that this year.”
