Jan. 31, 2007

Woodbridge Township Mayor John E. McCormac today announced that he has declared a “Red Alert” for Fri., Feb. 2 in support of the American Heart Association’s “Paint New Jersey Red” program geared to bring attention to the No. 1 killer of New Jersey females – cardiovascular disease. Employees at Woodbridge Town Hall are joining towns throughout New Jersey and across the nation by wearing red in support of the Fourth Annual American Heart Association National Wear Red Day for Women.

“I want to recognize Woodbridge Township municipal employees for their participation in National Wear Red Day for Women and thank them for supporting the American Heart Association campaign by wearing red and through their generous financial contributions to the program,” Mayor McCormac said.

Woodbridge Township Municipal Council President Brenda Velasco, along with the entire Municipal Council, joined Mayor McCormac in support of the National Wear Red for Women Day. “ Woodbridge Township workers are committed to supporting organizations and programs such as the American Heart Association National Wear Red for Women Day and many other worthy causes that benefit our community,” Council President Velasco said.

According to the American Heart Association, cardiovascular diseases such as heart disease and stroke are the No. 1 and No. 3 killers of more than 14,000 New Jersey women each year. The American Heart Association “Go Red for Women” movement invites women to take charge of their cardiovascular health by making it a top priority to live a stronger, healthier life.
