Mayor lauds municipal effort to combat rising fuel costs
A $100 investment has paid a significant dividend for Woodbridge Township – a savings of $7,364 toward the municipality’s natural gas costs.
The $100 represents the membership fee the Township paid to join a natural gas buying collaborative hosted by Middlesex Regional Educational Services Commission (MRESC).
The $7,364 represents the Township’s share of the refund obtained by the Commission when it cashed in the cooperative bidding agreement with its energy marketer and locked in a lower natural gas price rate with Elizabethtown Gas.
“Though we have so far had a mild winter, fuel costs show a rising trend,” says Mayor Frank G. Pelzman. “Negotiating better prices through collaborative effort is critical.”
Township Purchasing Director Marianne Horta says the Township frequently partners with the Woodbridge Township School District to take advantage of shared service opportunities with cooperative bidding agencies such as MRESC. “We are continually on the lookout to obtain resources at the best possible price.”
