Mayor cites need for immediate conservation measures to combat rising gas costs
Mayor Frank G. Pelzman has announced that Woodbridge Township will support the innovative Carpooling Makes Cents program created by Keep Middlesex Moving, a non-profit transportation management association based in New Brunswick.
Carpooling Makes Cents is an incentive program that awards $100 gas cards to automobile commuters who form and maintain carpools for 24 days over two months. The program is developed and funded by the New Jersey Department of Transportation.
Drivers can register for Carpooling Makes Cents at www.kmm.org and can find carpool partners through the website’s Rideshare Registration database that matches origin, destination and hours of work. Call (732) 745-4318 for information.
“For economic and environmental reasons, it is critical that New Jersey drivers use every means possible to reduce gas consumption,” says Mayor Pelzman. “The Carpooling Makes Cents program is an important step in reducing traffic congestion in our county.”
Last summer Woodbridge Township instituted a series of gas conservation measures in its Township vehicles. “Taken together, we believe these measures will result in savings while allowing us to deliver the same level of services residents have come to expect,” says Mayor Pelzman.
