Woodbridge Hosts “Fishing Derby” Sept. 30

Sept. 26, 2006

Woodbridge Township will host the first annual Frank Gagnon Memorial Fishing Derby on Sept. 30 from 9 a.m.-noon, Interim Mayor Joseph F. Vitale has announced.

Participants must be 16 years of age or under and must pre-register by Sept. 29 by calling (732) 596-4048.

The Fishing Derby is free and will be held rain or shine at Woodbridge Park Pond at Gorham Avenue and North Park Drive. The pond has been stocked with largemouth bass, catfish, fathead minnows and bluegill sunfish.

The event pays tribute to the late Woodbridge Housing Authority Chairman Frank Gagnon, an avid fisherman, environmentalist and community activist who served on the Middlesex County Planning Board and as a Rebuilding Together with Christmas in April organizer.

“Frank Gagnon was a terrific fishing teacher and a stalwart advocate for better neighborhoods ,” says Mayor Vitale. “The Fishing Derby is the Township’s way of honoring his legacy and hopefully inspiring others to follow his example .”
