NOMINATIONS OPEN FOR WOODBRIDGE CIVIC AWARD

February 16, 2004

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2004 John J. Fay, Jr. Civic Award, Mayor Frank G. Pelzman has announced. The award, established in 2000, goes to a Woodbridge Township resident whose career epitomizes public service and civic involvement. The honoree must have lived in Woodbridge Township for at least ten years, have held elected or appointed office in the township and served as a volunteer in community activities. "The Fay Award winner is a dedicated individual who not only exhibits passion for the community but inspires others to become involved in civic service as well," said Mayor Pelzman. The award is named after John "Jack" Fay, Jr. who held a number of elected and appointed offices in Woodbridge Township and Middlesex County, including Councilman, Freeholder, Assemblyman and State Senator and served as a volunteer for Center of Hope Hospice House, Emmaus House, State Commission on Cancer Research and other area service groups. The award was initiated by Councilwoman Brenda Yori Velasco. "I felt it was important to recognize those who give unselfishly to this community," she said. "This award honors people to whom civic activity is a way of life." Deadline for nominations is April 1, 2004. Nominations may be sent to Councilwoman Brenda Yori Velasco at Town Hall, 1 Main Street, Woodbridge NJ 07095.
