“Jersey Fresh” Produce at Main Street Open-Air Market…
WOODBRIDGE – Mayor John E. McCormac today announced that the Main Street Municipal parking lot will be transformed into an open-air farm market this June, as Garden State farmers bring the best “Jersey Fresh” products and locally grown produce directly to Township residents.
As part of the continuing effort to highlight the Main Street business district in downtown Woodbridge, Mayor McCormac noted that a new Downtown Farm Market Committee is being established and is seeking volunteers to assist in planning the future of the Main Street farm market and to help manage on-site market operations each Saturday from June through October. Farm market enthusiasts are encouraged to contact the Mayor’s Office at 732-602-6015 to volunteer.
“An open air farm market offering fresh, locally-grown produce and products and easily accessible to Township residents is not only a plus for shoppers but will serve as a boost for downtown Woodbridge and Main Street businesses,” said Mayor McCormac. “I am excited about the farmer’s market and look forward to the best of Garden State produce being available as part of the diverse Main Street shopping district.”
Mayor McCormac recently announced that downtown Woodbridge, the Main Street business district, and the area in and around the New Jersey Transit train station will be the cornerstone of a comprehensive study and long-term visioning plan geared to identify the best possible future use for area businesses, residents and visitors. The Main Street visioning plan, financed through a $50,000 grant from the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, will consider issues ranging from traffic and parking, to zoning and economic revitalization, to the implementation of innovative marketing programs such as the Main Street farmer’s market and the recent Pear Tree Festival.
“As we look to identify the best, possible future for downtown Woodbridge and area residents, our long-term goal is to make certain that the business district remains a vital part of the Township’s economy and a desirable place to live,” said Mayor McCormac. “The open-air farm market concept has proven highly successful in attracting shoppers and anchoring businesses in similar downtown areas throughout the state, and I’m convinced that it will prove a tremendous success for one and all,” Mayor McCormac said.
