February 5, 2004
Michael Esolda, Chief Information Officer of Woodbridge Township and Woodbridge Township School District, has been elected President of the recently formed New Jersey Chapter of Government Management Information Sciences (GMIS). GMIS is an international organization of information/data management employees in state, county and local government agencies and educational institutions. GMIS serves as a forum for ideas, information and techniques related to government technology activities. Esolda was formally installed as chapter President on February 3 during the GMIS New Jersey Chapter Board of Directors planning meeting at Woodbridge Township Main Public Library. The initial agenda included developing goals and policies for the chapter. Woodbridge Mayor Frank Pelzman sees GMIS' arrival in New Jersey as offering immediate and tangible benefits to the average citizen. "GMIS can bring together information technology spanning several government sectors," said Pelzman. "This sort of coordination will provide a higher level of public service at a reduced cost." According to Esolda, the New Jersey GMIS chapter is the first technology consortium to link public entities across the state. "The ability to share ideas, problems and opportunities among a network of 566 towns, 609 school districts, 21 counties is going to greatly increase efficiency and innovation among municipal information technology workers," said Esolda.
