Woodbridge
Begins Domestic Partnership Registration July 12
|
July 6, 2004
In compliance with the New Jersey Domestic Partnership Act approved in January, Woodbridge Township will begin its registration of couples wishing to apply for a Certificate of Domestic Partnership on July 12.
The act grants legal status and some, but not all, of the same rights as legally married couples to unmarried opposite-sex couples over age 62 and same-sex couples. Two adults who wish to enter into a domestic partnership can execute and file an Affidavit of Domestic Partnership at their local registrar's office. The couple will receive a filed copy of their Affidavit and are then issued a Certificate of Domestic Partnership
"Applicants for a Certificate of Domestic Partnership should call in advance to find out the exact requirements and what identity items they need to bring with them before coming to Town Hall," says John M. Mitch, Municipal Clerk/Registrar.
For information about applying for a Certificate of Domestic Partnership, call the Woodbridge Township Municipal Clerk's Office at 732-634-4500 x6443.
