Woodbridge Township Department of Health and Human Services will present a Diabetes Screening Day, Mayor Frank G. Pelzman has announced.
The free clinic takes place April 4 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Iselin Pharmacy, 1186 Green Street, Iselin. Anyone may walk in and receive a blood glucose test along with consultation on diabetes risks and treatment.
According to the American Diabetes Association, there are 18.2 million people in the United States (6.3% of the population) who have diabetes. Of that number, 5.2 million are unaware that they have the disease. Worldwide, approximately 4 million people die from diabetes-related illnesses each year.
“We are pleased to have a local pharmacist help promote Public Health Week in this way,” says Mayor Pelzman. “Diabetes is a disease that can disguise itself with several symptoms, so frequent testing and early detection are essential.”
