Mayor lauds landmark retail development, contribution to economic diversity

When Mayor Frank G. Pelzman cuts the ribbon Friday to formally open the new Destination Baby store, it will mark the completion of Woodbridge Township’s largest open-air retail center, the 400,000 square foot Crosspointe Town Square at the intersection of Woodbridge Center Drive and Main Street.

“ Crosspointe Town Square has been a very strong draw since it opened with Wegmans in November, 2003,” says Mayor Pelzman. “It is an excellent example of the Township’s economic growth during the last two years and a terrific asset to our retail diversity.”

The Destination Baby ribbon-cutting occurs at 4 p.m., Jan. 27 at Crosspointe Town Square, 25 Woodbridge Center Drive.

Destination Baby joins Wegmans, Lowe's Home Improvement, Wachovia, Treasure Island, Home Goods, Five Below, Panera Bread, Annie Sez and Electronics Expo. It adjoins Woodbridge Center, the state’s largest enclosed mall.

With over 10,000 square feet of space, Destination Baby is a “ super-boutique” of clothing and accessories for infants and toddlers, according to company President/CEO Arthur Howard. “Destination Baby has everything from bibs to books to bottles,” he says. The store includes fully designed nurseries, a book corner, nursing lounge and well-trained staff Howard believes personalizes the shopping experience for families.

Crosspointe Town Square ’s developers are not surprised at the center’s success. “Consumers throughout Middlesex County and beyond are attracted to Woodbridge because of the mix of regional and national retailers within a short proximity,” says Scott Loventhal, Director of Development for Garden Commercial Properties.

Several new retail shopping centers have opened in Woodbridge Township during the last four years, says Mayor Pelzman, noting that the Township’s older business districts have also witnessed a revival. “We are committed to maintaining a retail sector that is community-based as well as offering national career advancement for our residents,” he says.
