Township Seeks $74,000 for Improvements in Fords and Iselin
Woodbridge Township Council has authorized the Mayor and Municipal Clerk to apply to the New Jersey Department of Transportation for $74,000 to improve two pedestrian crosswalks, announced Mayor Frank G. Pelzman.
The two locations are Ford Avenue at Fanning Street near Fords Middle School and Middlesex Avenue and Goodrich Street near Kennedy Park School. The DOT funding would provide the intersections with warning signs and flashing yellow lights more easily seen by oncoming motorists.
"Traffic signal improvements are part of our overall initiative to enhance infrastructure safety and efficiency throughout the Township," said Mayor Pelzman. "The proximity of these crosswalks to schools make their funding even more critical."
Council President Rick Dalina agreed. "Residents see this as an important safety issue," he said, "and the Township Council and Mayor's Office were quick to respond."
Councilman Kevin Wertz noted the timeliness of the application. "As we see more growth in the Township, the need for these kinds of improvements will become more frequent."
