County Roads in Woodbridge Undergo Resurfacing |
August 19, 2005
King Georges Post Rd., Ford Ave. repairs begin Aug. 29-Sept. 2
Two main thorofares in Woodbridge Township will be resurfaced from Aug. 29 through Sept. 2, Mayor Frank G. Pelzman has announced.
Milling starts Aug. 29 on King Georges Post Road from New Brunswick Avenue to the Conrail bridge and on Ford Avenue from New Brunswick Avenue to Main Street. The work will be performed by Middlesex County Department of Highways.
Road crews will operate Monday through Friday only from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. If weather stays dry, both roads will be milled, paved and striped by Sept. 2.
“We are pleased that this project is being handled with expediency by the county,” says Mayor Pelzman. “Maintaining safe, smooth roadways is essential to minimize congestion and cut down on traffic delays.”
Mayor Pelzman noted that the county work is a great bonus to the more than 50 Township streets resurfaced this summer as part of the municipality’s $2.5 million road repair program.
The project represents a timely resolution to a jurisdictional problem that had bedeviled Edison and Woodbridge officials for years. Because King Georges Post Road lies in both townships, repair efforts were undertaken by each township at different times. Through the efforts of 2 nd Ward Councilman Richard A. Dalina of Woodbridge, the resurfacing was taken over by the county and now extends the entire length of the thorofare.
“This is an example of our ongoing commitment to improving our infrastructure,” says Mr. Dalina. “Residents in the area will be happy to see a permanent improvement in the traffic flow.”
